The Water Scarcity project is funded by New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) was launched in June 2020 through the Pacific Community (SPC), an initiative for eight (8) Pacific Island Countries to address water scarcity. Nauru joined the project in 2023 in response to ongoing water scarcity issues experienced.

Water Quality Testing - Training
In October 2024, one of the objectives to the Scarcity project was to procure water quality testing, 20 participants from the Water Sectors including Public Health, Nauru Utilities, Hydrology Division, Environment Division and community leaders joined the Water Quality testing training. The three-day training consists of checking the quality of our water resources for quality of the water, salinity level and for e-coli to ensure our water are safe to drink
